Ice, Jell-O And Liquid Web Designs

Web designs have come a long way from the all too boring static gray backgrounds and bulleted texts to interactive and colorful interfaces. Today web designs are as much about entertainment as information. Web designs can be loads of fun if you know how to use the latest and new innovative techniques of web designs like Ice, Jell-O and Liquid.

Good web designs mean blending the right amount of interactivity with the right information. This makes the site’s navigation appear seamless and the site itself seems fluid. Ice, Jell-O and Liquid are three very different techniques in web designs, each aiming to bring that perfect blend in a website.

Ice Web Designs

Ice is probably the most common among the techniques used for web designs today. Ice web designs make a web page looks like frozen ice. None of the elements change whenever the page is resized in the browser.

Ice designs are not bad web designs. However it reminds us that there are limitations even in the virtual world. Ice designs usually make the entire web page frozen to the left side of the browser and look best at a certain browser size.

For example, the website of ZDnet, CNN, Adobe etc. are designed using ice web designs. Some of them are tightly wedged into a 600 pixel-wide table and carved into the left side of the browser.

Jell-O Web Designs

The Jell-O web designs are more or less similar to Ice designs. Just add some center tags in your HTML codes, the design will provide a bit more flexibility to your website. This type of web designs is rarely used by the web designers for designing any corporate web sites.

Jell-O web designs keep the web pages centered to fit the browser, if browser window is resized in any case. A few good examples of these types of sites are The Web Standards Project, DigitalThread, and HeadSpace. There are certainly more out there, but these will satisfy the point.

Liquid Web Designs

Liquid web designs are the last word in flexibility. It can make your web site straight-forward, user-friendly and easily accessible, which are the winning factors for a site on the internet.

Liquid design is one of the most advanced techniques in web designs. It acts like a fluid and fits itself to the browser’s window. Liquid web designs are effectively used in various websites like, Falkon Design etc.

Liquid design can adjust your site very nicely within any browsing window. This design is based on percentages and not pixels. It sizes the layers and graphics of your site as a percentage of the user’s screen resolution. Where the pixels available on the users monitor can vary, percentage is always available at 100%. Liquid design, combined with some functions, can adjust your site whenever browsers resize their browsing window. Your site will then be displayed well at any possible resolution.

Whichever web design techniques you use, your goal should be to provide seamless interfaces with relevant information. If you don’t get any negative comment or reaction from your browsers from your web designs, it means you have succeeded in creating the ideal web designs.
